As a 17-year "back of the book" section editor for a Southern California alternative newsweekly, I hired and managed freelancers, edited their copy, planned content, participated in design decisions and drained the ink from untold boxes of Paper Mate Flair medium point red pens.

Since leaving that position in 2016, I've edited two books, cranked out a few chapters of my 1980s punk memoir and managed online content for a handful of clients. I also conceptualized a magazine for hip old ladies. (Like me!)

I'm an old-school “Elements of Style” editor with one goal: lean, mean, unforgettable copy. I approach the work with surgical precision and a mind toward elevating voice, not sacrificing it.

I am exceptionally versed in the subjects of popular culture, politics, music, wellness, alternative health, self-help and spirituality.

I dabble in plant medicine, gardening, Elder Scrolls Online (come play with me!) and qigong. I love strong coffee, French pastries, dogs, garden roses, chinoiserie, rugged men and wise old women. Music soothes my savage breast.

*Note: I have two bylines: Michel Cicero (married) and Michel Miller (not). By some anomalous astrological aspect, there is another Michel Cicero who is a writer and editor. Weird, I know. She once sat at the helm of Ms. Magazine. I did not. We've corresponded and we're good. <3
